Alan Cassidy was born in Ringmer, Sussex in 1949. He is one of the top aerobatic pilots in all of the United Kingdom. Prior to joining the Royal Air Force in 1970, Cassidy attended Trinity College, Cambridge. While at university, he studied mechanical sciences. Cassidy served in the Royal Air Force for 20 years as a professional aeronautical engineer, and this is where he began to really hone his skills as a pilot.

Alan Cassidy has won the British National Aerobatic Championship on four occasions between 1998 and 2003. Cassidy is a member of the British Aerobatic Team and has competed with his team in seven world championships. In 2007, Cassidy won an individual bronze medal in the Second Unknown sequence in the European Advanced aerobatic competition. In 2008, Cassidy and his team took home a bronze medal, and in 2010, he took home an individual silver medal in the Known Programme. Cassidy was the UK National Champion in the advanced category three times: in 2009, 2010, and 2011.

Alan Cassidy also does a lot of work for the sport of aerobatics on the ground. He is a vice-president of honour for the International Aerobatic Commission of the International Air Sports Federation. In January of 2006, Cassidy became a Chairman of the British Aerobatic Association, and he is still serving in that position to this day. Cassidy led the British Aerobatic Association in 2009 when they organized the FAI World Aerobatic Championships in Silverstone.

Outside of competitive aerobatics, Alan Cassidy is also an experienced commercial pilot. Cassidy holds many qualifications including a JAA Certified Pilot’s License and an FAA Certified Pilot’s License. He also spends most of his time training the next wave of aerobatic pilots as an aerobatics instructor. Cassidy has been an aerobatics instructor since 1991.

In his spare time, Cassidy enjoys studying butterflies. He is one of the UK’s best-known aerobatics instructors, and has done a great deal of service to the sport of aerobatics.
